Siren testing on campus: Sept. 5, 2024

McMaster’s Campus Safety Services will conduct annual testing of the campus Siren Alert and Alertus emergency notification systems starting around 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024.

At that time, campus community members with the McMaster Safety App installed on their smartphone will receive notice of testing.

Digital screens on campus, laptops and computers with the Alertus app installed will display a similar alert.

Shortly thereafter, at 10:25 a.m., outdoor and indoor sirens on campus will be tested.

There will be a recorded “THIS IS A TEST” message, followed by a full volume siren wail.

Indoor sirens will also sound in the following buildings on campus:

  • McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC)
  • Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Learning and Discovery (MDCL)
  • David Braley Athletic Centre (DBAC)
  • Ivor Wynne Centre and David Braley Athletic Centre (IWC)

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to download the free McMaster SafetyApp for safety alerts, such as campus closures and emergency instructions.

The app is available for free download on the Apple and Android app store. Click here to learn more about the app.
