Scheduled network maintenance March 17
In an ongoing effort to increase McMaster’s network reliability and performance, University Technology Services (UTS) has scheduled a network maintenance window for Sunday, March 17 from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 pm.
Planned activities for this day are as follows:
- Network wiring clean-up in the John Hodgins Engineering building affecting wired internet and Wi-Fi services on the second and third floors only. First floor along with Hatch and the Annex are not impacted. This activity may take most of the change window, 7 a.m.- 1 p.m.
- Network switch software upgrades affecting wired internet and Wi-Fi connectivity in L.R. Wilson, Hatch (Engineering), Alumni Memorial Building, Kenneth Taylor Hall basement computer Lab and a small portion of Bourns. There will be short outages of 10-15 minutes each while updates are applied.
- Applying vendor recommended software updates to the campus internet firewall. No service impact is expected.
This maintenance is part of planned monthly UTS maintenance windows necessary to perform upgrades to McMaster’s network. UTS will be using this time to add more capacity to the university’s network infrastructure and improve overall service. Some of this maintenance will impact services, so users may experience instances of slow or unresponsive network.
