Program supporting academic resilience this Reading Week
This year, the Student Success Centre will be hosting an Academic Reboot during Reading Week to give students the opportunity to recalibrate and enhance their academics before the term is over. Academic Reboot is typically offered annually in June to provide students who are academically at-risk a chance to reflect on the year and grow their academic skills.
Academic Reboot is a highly interactive, hands-on learning program that combines reflection, planning, and action to help students overcome academic setbacks. Informed by research-driven best practices, its mission is to support students to become more effective learners by helping them develop resiliency and academic skills.
“We are really excited to be offering Academic Reboot this month,” says Jenna Storey, academic skills program coordinator at the Student Success Centre. “This program, based on sound methodology, empowers students to build their resiliency so they can bounce back stronger while being provided with an academic tool-kit.”
As Jill McMillan, academic skills program coordinator at the Student Success Centre, notes, “We were inspired to remodel our existing program after the ThriveRU program at Ryerson University, which was designed to help students thrive academically and personally.”
The Student Success Centre encourages staff and faculty to recommend this program to students who are experiencing academic setbacks or who may benefit from some academic coaching.
Academic Reboot will take place on Wednesday, February 20 and Thursday, February 21, 2019; registration is on OSCARplus (under Special Events). Students can select the day that best suits their schedule.
