As the urgency to address climate change intensifies, the DeGroote School of Business is bringing together a panel of experts from key sectors to discuss the collective response required to tackle the challenge of transitioning to a sustainable economy.

“Pathways to a net-zero economy in Canada,” on Nov. 4, 2024, will explore the current state of Canada’s sustainable economy and how finance and industry must work together to achieve our goals.

“Banks have an essential role to play in the transition to a sustainable economy. Our impact is strongest when we’re playing the role of catalyst and accelerator, providing support to our clients as part of a larger-scale transition. In light of the major challenges our world faces, all stakeholders, beyond the finance industry, must work together to promote a sustainable and just transition,” says panellist Sonja Volpe (MBA ’01), CEO of BNP Paribas Canada.

The panel of distinguished experts also features Aida Cipolla (BCom ‘03), CFO & Corporate Services Officer of Ontario Power Generation; Connor Lyons, partner at Power Sustainable; and will be moderated by Dan Wicklum, CEO of the Transition Accelerator.

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts during the Q&A portion.

“We want to provide an opportunity for industry experts to share insights and engage in thoughtful dialogue on this critical issue. At DeGroote, we recognize that business and finance are key catalysts for driving meaningful change, and we are committed to being a part of the solution for achieving sustainability,” says Khaled Hassanein, Dean of DeGroote School of Business.

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception, providing guests with an opportunity for networking and conversation prior to the lecture and Q&A.

The event will be held at the Arcadian Loft in downtown Toronto at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4.

There is no charge to attend, but registration is required due to limited capacity. Please visit the event registration page for more information.
