Ontario’s budget highlights role of universities


Ontario budget supports the important role universities play McMaster was highlighted in the Ontario Budget 2018 which was delivered at Queen’s Park on Wednesday.

Dawn Bowdish, associate professor of Pathology and Molecular Medicine was featured for her Early Researcher Award and her team’s investigations into the causes of bacterial pneumonia in the elderly which is supported by provincial funding.

The Budget provided new funding for universities including an additional $32 million investment to support quality programs and student outcomes and a program starting in 2020-21 which will provide $500 million to modernize postsecondary institutions.

The city of Hamilton will benefit from a new Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area Fund to support small and medium-sized business in the regions.
