Microsoft Copilot now available to students

McMaster University students now have access to Microsoft Copilot, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) chat assistant that can search the web, and generate content, such as words, images and more. Like staff and faculty, students can access Copilot using their MacID@mcmaster.ca sign-in credentials. When doing so, none of the information exchanged in the chat is stored or used to train AI models. Neither McMaster nor Microsoft can access or use the data in any way.

Before using Copilot, students should read McMaster’s Provisional Guidelines on the Use of Generative AI document and check with their instructor as to how usage of Copilot adheres to the academic standards of the class.

This institutionally licensed version of Copilot uses data from the web but by design does not have access to McMaster organizational data or content within your Microsoft 365 account, such as documents in OneDrive, Outlook emails or Outlook calendar.

Students are also encouraged to read the Terms of Use and Microsoft’s Privacy Statement before using this version of Copilot to fully inform themselves of the way it works with data.

Learn where and how to access and use Copilot on McMaster’s Discover and Learn site: Start here with Copilot.
