McMaster monitoring province-wide college support staff labour dispute

McMaster is monitoring the province-wide college support staff labour dispute and any potential impacts on our community. A strike could begin as early as Thursday.

Full-time support staff includes technicians, technologists, building maintenance, clerks, analysts, tutors and facilities operators, according to the College Employer Council. Only employees of Ontario’s 24 public colleges are affected.

McMaster partners with Mohawk and Conestoga Colleges in some program delivery. At this time, no class cancellations are expected to affect McMaster programs, and all support services provided directly by McMaster will continue as normal.

We anticipate only minimal disruption to joint programs with Mohawk and Conestoga. In the event of a strike, program staff will contact impacted students directly with updates.

If a strike occurs, college employees may conduct informational picketing near McMaster’s Main Street entrance, but this is not expected to block traffic or cause disruptions. For more information, go to Mohawk’s website and Conestoga’s website.
