International law firm hosts event to discuss commercializing research
Leaders from McMaster Innovation Park, McMaster University, Gowling WLG and the City of Hamilton will be among those gathering at the Art Gallery of Hamilton May 2 to talk about new collaborative efforts they are making to enhance the commercialization of research and advanced manufacturing in Hamilton.
Gowling WLG, an international law firm, is turning its practice ever more toward the development of intellectual property and is also working to modernize the practice of law more broadly through new technology in AI and other fields.
Gowling, which is hosting the event, has identified McMaster Innovation Park and McMaster University as hubs of current and future activity for its firm, signalling strong belief in the potential to generate significant economic impact through the commercialization of research and related activities such as international investment.
The event is expected to draw about 150 researchers, university and MIP leaders, investors, legal advisers and others with an interest in creating research-based economic activity.
Among those set to speak at the event are Nick Markettos, interim CEO of McMaster Innovation Park, Gay Yuyitung, executive director of the McMaster Industry Liaison Office, Louis Frapporti, managing partner at Gowling WLP’s Hamilton office, Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger and the City of Hamilton’s director of economic development Glen Norton.
