Flags lowered April 28 in recognition of National Day of Mourning for victims of work-related incidents
McMaster’s flags will be lowered on Monday, April 28, in recognition of the National Day of Mourning, a day to remember and honour the thousands of workers across Canada who have lost their lives, suffered injury or illness on the job, or experienced a work-related tragedy.
A small ceremony, including a moment of silence, will be held that day in the Council Chambers in Gilmour Hall (Room 111) from 10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., and is open to the McMaster community.
Elisa Kilbourne, a volunteer with the Threads of Life, will share her family’s story of a work-related tragedy in 2013 that profoundly changed their lives.
This is also an opportunity to collectively renew our commitment to health and safety in the workplace and to preventing injuries and tragedies. McMaster University is committed to providing and maintaining physically and psychologically healthy and safe working and learning environments.
