Flags lowered in memory of Distinguished University Professor Simon Haykin

McMaster University’s flags are lowered today in memory of Simon Haykin, a professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering in the Faculty of Engineering from 1965 to 1996.

Haykin’s  research activities continued to 2020; and in 2023, he was appointed a Distinguished University Professor.

Throughout his career, Haykin revolutionized the field of radar and telecommunications, becoming one of the most cited engineering researchers in the world.

He established the first Communications Research Laboratory (CRL) in Canada, which was widely recognized for its contributions to signal processing, communications and radar applications.

Haykin’s passion for sharing knowledge enriched the research community within the Faculty of Engineering and helped generations of graduate students launch successful careers.
