Cynthia Gibney appointed director of Student Wellness
Student Affairs has hired Cynthia Gibney to lead the Student Wellness Centre and the David Braley Sport Medicine & Rehabilitation Centre, to drive initiatives that enhance well-being, mental health, and student success.
Gibney is a seasoned health-care leader with over 20 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education, having served at Queen’s University as executive director, Student Wellness Services; and Western University as director, Health and Wellness.
In addition, Gibney brings 32 years of dedicated service as a registered nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
“I am excited to welcome Cynthia to Student Affairs and look forward to her building on the strong foundation of programs and services and championing health and well-being initiatives that strengthen polices, processes, and services for students and campus partners,” said Sean Van Koughnett, associate vice-president, Students.
In addition to focusing on overall student health and well-being, Gibney will lead McMaster’s comprehensive sports medicine and rehabilitation facility as director of Student Wellness, serving thousands of students, faculty and staff, and the broader Hamilton community.
The full-time, permanent position was posted widely in March 2025. A diverse selection committee across McMaster reviewed candidates and conducted interviews.
Gibney will assume her duties as director on June 23, 2025.
The McMaster community thanks Rosanne Kent for her leadership as the director of the Student Wellness Centre for the past 14 years.
