Committee begins search for next university chancellor

A selection committee has been launched to look for McMaster’s next university chancellor.

The Committee for Nominating a Chancellor will soon begin consultations to identify and recommend a successor who will build on the strong foundation laid by the current Chancellor Santee Smith.

Chancellor Smith, an internationally acclaimed artist, performer, and advocate for Indigenous culture, has served two terms as McMaster’s 19th Chancellor since taking on the role in 2019. During her tenure, she has inspired students, faculty, and alumni with her vision, creativity, and excellence. Her term is set to end on August 31, 2025.

“Chancellor Santee Smith has been an extraordinary leader, bringing her profound wisdom, artistry, and commitment to reconciliation to every aspect of her role,” said President David Farrar. “We are grateful for her support as we prepare for the transition to new university leadership.”
