Canada 150: Celebrating our alumni

This year, Canada marks 150 years as a nation.

To celebrate the sesquicentennial, McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering is recognizing the great achievements of our alumni and the role they’ve played in shaping Canada and the world.

Starting this week, we will be honoring our top 150 graduates. Below you’ll meet the first 25 success stories from our Faculty. They span careers in construction, academia, bioinnovation, healthcare, innovation and in other key sectors crucial to the success of Canada.

We will be the sharing the stories of our alumni each month through the end of 2017. All of the successful graduates will be featured in the upcoming Fall issue of the MacEngineer. We thank everyone for nominating successful alumni; we had a lot of exceptional graduates nominated from family, colleges and coworkers.

The importance of serving Canada was driven home for me this week during a visit to Ottawa. I had the good fortune of joining 51 other accomplished engineering professionals as a new Fellow inducted into the Canadian Academy of Engineering.

Joining this distinguished academy, which offers key advice on matters of critical importance to Canada, was a truly humbling honour, particularly in light of Canada’s 150th anniversary.

Fittingly, it also the 60th anniversary of the founding of McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering. I can’t reiterate enough how proud we are of all of our alumni and the impact they are making in technical innovation, and engineering products and services around the world, and particularly, within Canada.

It is time to celebrate our collective success, and our country.
