Allison Sekuler appointed Strategic Advisor to President, Vice-Presidents
Allison Sekuler, who has served as Dean of Graduate Studies since 2008, has been appointed to the newly-created position of Strategic Advisor to the President and Vice-Presidents on Academic Issues.
The appointment will take effect on Jan. 1, 2017, when Sekuler returns from research leave.
In this role, Sekuler will work closely with the Presidents and Vice-Presidents on a variety of critical pan-University projects, including undergraduate program redevelopment and undergraduate involvement in research; equity and diversity issues, including continuing to help promote and support Indigenous research and education; the ongoing collaboration with the United Nations University (UNU-INWEH); as well as continuing the development of MyGradSkills and supporting the ongoing work on the proposed new graduate residence.
Sekuler has previously held the position of Acting Vice-President (Research) on two occasions, Associate Vice-President and Dean of Graduate Studies, and Associate Vice-President (Research).
“I’m grateful for Allison’s dedicated service to the University, and for her work on many initiatives, particularly with regard to enhancing graduate student life and professional development training at McMaster and across the country,” says President Patrick Deane. “Allison brings a wealth of administrative experience to this role, and I know the McMaster community will help me in welcoming her to this new position.”
A selection committee is being struck to begin the search for a new Associate Vice-President and Dean of Graduate Studies and will begin work, under the leadership of the Provost, as soon as possible.
Further updates will be provided as the search progresses.
