Join McMaster University Library archivist, Gillian Dunks, as she explores the life and accomplishments of Dr. Basil Johnston, a celebrated writer and teacher of Anishinaabemowin.

In his lifetime, Johnston published 16 volumes, including the Anishinaubae Thesaurus. He was awarded the Order of Ontario and received the Aboriginal Achievement Award for Heritage and Spirituality. Dr. Johnston’s archive, which is preserved at McMaster’s William Ready Division of Archives and Research Collections, is a rich testament to his work and legacy.
