Helping managers make the best decisions

For our grandparents, grocery shopping meant a trip of several miles, often in the snow, and of course uphill both ways. However, these days, a trip to the supermarket can be replaced by a few simple mouse clicks in front of our computers. Technological advances have brought us to the point where nearly anything can be ordered online - and if we choose to make the trek to the store itself, we can usually do a simple online stock check to ensure the trip will be successful.

Anti-thrombotic drug reduces deaths and repeat heart attacks

A landmark Canadian-led study involving researchers from 41 countries has found that a simple anti-blood-clotting drug significantly reduces death and repeat heart attacks, without increasing the risk of bleeding. The OASIS-6 randomized trial, presented at the American College of Cardiology meeting in Atlanta, U.S. today, showed that in patients experiencing a major heart attack fondaparinux (ArixtraTM), a novel antithrombotic therapy, was effective at lowering death and repeat heart attacks without increasing the risk of bleeding.

Show of women artists curated by faculty

While viewing the works of art by women in the McMaster collection, faculty members Janice Hladki and Mary O'Connor were struck by a number of sculptural, mixed media and photographic pieces that demanded that they rethink material bodies. Together they explored the museum's vaults and curated "Embodied Matter", the new exhibition at the McMaster Museum of Art, which showcases women's art of a particular period (1962-2000). This exhibition not only presents works by women; it addresses the question, "What have women artists done with materials and bodies?"

O’Shea advocates fair treatment of incarcerated women

Kathleen O'Shea is an internationally known advocate on behalf of women on death row in the United States, but this is only one aspect of her fascinating and inspiring activist career. While she is in Hamilton, March 13-16, this social worker and author will be speaking to the Elizabeth Frye Society downtown, giving three public presentations on campus and speaking to two classes about the plight of incarcerated women.
