Volunteer profile: Ken Turner

For National Volunteer Week (April 19 to 25), the Daily News has compiled a selection of stories to recognize volunteers across the McMaster community. McMaster has a rich community of volunteers that contribute their time on campus, in the Hamilton community, across Canada and even internationally. At 99 years of age, Ken Turner could be living out his golden years in relaxation. Instead, Turner has spent the last 6 years volunteering at the Bennett/Sekuler Vision & Cognitive Neuroscience Lab in the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour, where he participates in a variety of experiments.

Spotlight put on osteoporosis research

McMaster University has teamed up with Eli Lilly Canada and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) to put a world-class researcher on the track of the silent thief. Osteoporosis, the debilitating disease of bone deterioration, has been called the 'silent thief' as it occurs without symptoms.

New faculty joining McMaster

The provost provided an update to Senate at its April meeting about faculty hiring that's been occurring across the University so far this year. A total of 35 new tenure and teaching track faculty members have been hired and approximately another ten searches are still underway.

University and city partner on safety initiative

A new radar sign overtop Cootes Drive on the western edge of campus helps remind motorists of the speed limit, while informing them how fast they are travelling as they drive towards Main Street.
