Think globally, act locally, the old saying goes. For participants in MacServe Reading Week, acting “locally” goes well beyond the edges of campus. shopparajumpers
Throughout Reading Week, students will be volunteering their time and giving back to communities in Vancouver, Montreal, New Orleans, Cuernavaca (Mexico) and right here in Hamilton.
The program allows students to take a closer look at local, national and international issues, while also testing their own capacity to affect social change. Participants perform valuable services in each community, form new relationships and learn about themselves and the world around them.
Projects in each host city involve construction in local settlements (Cuernavaca), disaster relief efforts (New Orleans), working with impoverished youth (Hamilton), addressing stereotypes (Montreal) and increasing access to nutritious food (Vancouver).
