Run, don’t walk, to get tickets to riveting solo show The Runner.- NOW Magazine

This production – from Morris’s Human Cargo theatre company– uses a common technology as I’ve never seen it used before, and in a way that elevates and perfectly integrates with the text. Perhaps a rare occasion where it’s not a cliché to write: Run, don’t walk. – Globe and Mail

The Runner is a powerful new thriller from Toronto’s Human Cargo Theatre. Winner of three 2019 Dora Mavor Moore Awards for Outstanding Production, Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Direction, the play is brilliantly staged entirely on a long narrow and continuously moving treadmill. The Runner is directed by Daniel Brooks and performed by Shaw and Stratford Festival alumnus Gord Rand as Jacob, a volunteer with Z.A.K.A, an emergency response group in Israel. Jacob’s split-second decision to treat a young woman, instead of the soldier she may have attacked has profound moral, psychological and practical repercussions for Jacob, his family and his fellow Z.A.K.A. members.
