The Office of the Associate Chair, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, in the Department of Pediatrics invites Black women learners, researchers, administrative professionals, faculty, and leadership across the McMaster community to join a special virtual seminar this June on Sustaining Strategies for Black Women with Dr. Rachelle Rogers-Ard.

Date: Friday, June 13th, 2025
Time: 1:00-4:00pm EDT
Location: Zoom (click here to register)

Given recent sociopolitical events in North America and the doubling-down on white supremacy, Black women must draw on their unique strengths and talents to sustain within white-framed spaces. During heightened times of hardship, it is more important than ever to intentionally create spaces where Black women can be seen, heard, and affirmed.

Sustaining Strategies for Black Women is an afternoon seminar meant to create such a space for conversation and community, building on the themes of resilience and connection explored by the Faculty of Health Sciences Black History Month events this past February. Together, Black women will learn strategies to replenish and protect their wellness by exploring intersectional approaches to combatting isolation, practicing physical, emotional and mental rest, and practical strategies to “catch our breath.”

All McMaster community members who self-identity as a Black woman are invited to join this seminar.
