McMaster University and the Paul R. MacPherson Institute for Leadership, Innovation & Excellence in Teaching are pleased to host the annual Research on Teaching & Learning Conference on December 12 & 13, 2018 at McMaster Innovation Park in Hamilton, Ontario.
The conference theme this year will be Stages and Places of Engagement in Teaching and Learning. This theme promises to attract presentations, workshops, posters, roundtable, and panel discussions involving a range of teaching and learning topics.
We are also excited to announce that our keynote presenter for this year’s conference will be Dr. Gary Poole, Senior Scholar at the University of British Columbia and past-President of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Dr. Poole’s keynote entitled, “The Big “So What?” Working to Maximize the Benefits of SoTL, will explore the notion that as momentum for SoTL builds, important questions arise regarding the potential impact of all this work. Such questions can be fascinating and complex, given the challenges inherent in translating research knowledge into practice. In this session, Dr. Poole, along with conference attendees, will look at some of those challenges, (from microscopic to macroscopic perspectives), and explore ways to “increase the contagion” of SoTL work—in healthy ways.
A formal call for abstracts and reviewers will be circulated in early-August, but in the meantime, please mark your calendars for this exciting opportunity to connect with others to learn about current and innovative research on teaching and learning.
