Shockingly, an FDA survey revealed that sounds from medical devices have been implicated in hundreds of deaths each year. McMaster’s MAPLE Lab is solving that by designing better medical device sounds, taking cues from music. Host Bio: Michael Schutz is an Associate Professor of Music Cognition/Percussion and “University Scholar” at McMaster. Drawing on his interdisciplinary training in music, psychology, and computer science, he directs the MAPLE Lab, while maintaining an active career as a musician.
