Nadine Strossen is the John Marshall Harlan II Professor of Law at New York Law School and former President of the American Civil Liberties Union, the first woman to serve in that position. In this talk, Dr. Strossen draws on her most recent book Hate: Why We Should Resist It with Free Speech not Censorship to address misunderstandings plaguing our perennial debates about “hate speech vs. free speech” and to argue that non-censorial countermeasures are more effective than censorship in advancing the causes of equality and societal harmony.
In conversation with Arig al Shaibah, Associate Vice-President, Equity and Inclusion at McMaster University.
