The McMaster Institute for Health Equity (MIHE) and Advanced Research on Mental Health and Society (ARMS) are pleased to host Dr. Jane McLeod for our Health Equity Seminar Series. Our goal is to present timely, health-equity focused research on a range of topics that is relevant to researchers, students, staff and community members across many backgrounds.

Description: This talk will consider educational inequalities based on autism and mental health conditions, with special attention to college success, as part of a more general research agenda concerned with the role of invisible disabilities in life chances. Following an overview of general theoretical approaches to disability-based inequalities, Dr. McLeod will present preliminary results from an ongoing panel study of college students in the state of Indiana.

Jane D. McLeod is Provost Professor of Sociology and Executive Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University. Her research focuses on health inequalities over the life course. She received the Leonard I. Pearlin Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Sociological Study of Mental Health from the Mental Health Section of the American Sociological Association and the James R. Greenley Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Sociology of Mental Health from the Mental Health Division of the Society for the Study of Social Problems in 2014, and the Cooley-Mead Award for Distinguished Scholarship from the Social Psychology section of the American Sociological Association in 2022. Her current project (with Andy Halpern-Manners) is a panel study of educational, occupational, and health trajectories for autistic college students as compared to their neurotypical peers.

All are welcome at this free event. Light refreshments will be served.
