My Calendar

You’re invited to join us in celebrating the opening of two new exhibitions on campus at the McMaster Museum of Art on Thursday, January 16, 6 – 8 p.m.
Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Artists and curators will be in attendance.

The exhibitions are:

ANIMALS ACROSS DISCIPLINE, TIME & SPACE
Artists: Mary Anne Barkhouse, Kathryn Eddy, Erica Gajewski, Derek Jenkins, Colleen Plumb
Curator: Tracy McDonald, Department of History, McMaster University
The relationships between human and nonhuman animals have always been at the heart of our existence. Notions of human superiority, reinforced in the age of enlightenment, have played a fundamental role in where we find ourselves in the 21st century: deep in the human-created catastrophe of the Anthropocene. This exhibition brings together work by five artists who explore the nonhuman. More information: https://museum.mcmaster.ca/about/news/animals/

DEANNA BOWEN: A HARLEM NOCTURNE
Organized and circulated by the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver
Curator: Kimberly Phillips
Deanna Bowen’s artistic practice concerns itself with histories of Black experience in Canada and the US. Her focus is the “dark matter” in our midst: figures and events that have remained below the threshold of visibility not because they are impossible to find but because their existence reveals a systematized racism difficult for the majority culture to acknowledge.
