Advances in digital technologies are transforming how we work, interact with each other, access health care and manage our own health and well-being. As increasingly powerful digital platforms are developed, we face challenges of equity, ethics, and fairness. Who benefits? Who is left behind? How does age intersect with factors such as gender, ethnicity and ability when considering the growing digital divide?

The One Topic, Two Disciplines MIRA Webinar Series brings together two experts from different disciplines to discuss a single topic related to aging research. In this seminar, Drs. Milena Head and Jeremy Petch will discuss how certain technologies (such as remote monitoring, virtual care platforms, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and smart wearables) can improve quality of life and health outcomes. They will explore the challenges that exist in fairness, ethics and biases in design and data collection — all of which can be built into data, impacting decision making and user/patient experiences.
