With recent changes to Canada’s MAiD guidelines, and the increasing relevance of mental health in clinical practice, the Medical Law IG has identified 2 excellent speakers to share their perspectives on this topic, who will speak from 2-2:30 p.m., and then from 2:30-3 p.m., respectively.

Jennifer A. Chandler, LLB, LLM is a Full Professor and the Bertram Loeb Research Chair at the Faculty of Law, cross-appointed to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. She was also a member of the government-appointed Council of Canadian Academies’ expert panel that completed its review of Canada’s medical assistance in dying legislation in 2018. She holds degrees in law from Queen’s University (Canada) and Harvard University.

Andrea Frolic, PhD is the Director of Program for Ethics and Care Ecologies (PEaCE) & Co-Director of MAiD at Hamilton Health Sciences, and Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. In 2015 and 16 she was an Erasumus Mundus Visiting Scholar in Ethics at Radboud University Medical Centre in the Netherlands, studying the experiences of Dutch euthanasia practitioners. She has a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Rice University, including a two-year fellowship in Clinical Ethics at the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
