This year’s Lively Exchange will feature three, short 10 minute talks, one preceding each course of the meal that will spark a lively exchange among you and the guests at your table!
Reception: The McMaster Alumni Association Annual General Meeting.
Salad: Beyond the Drinking Glass: Water Biodiversity and Climate Change with Dr. Pat Chow-Fraser, McMaster’s Dept. of Biology
– Biodiversity, or the total of all the different species on earth, is essential for us to persist on earth. Climate change is accelerating extinction of some species and extending the range of others to the detriment of sensitive ones. What is Canada doing to stem this loss?
Main Course: The Main Event: The Origins of Life with Dr. Ralph Pudritz, McMaster’s Dept. of Physics and Astronomy
– Meteorites may have brought building blocks of life to Earth somewhere between 3.7 and 4.5 billion years ago. How is astronomy shaping the origins of life?
Dessert: Sinfully Delicious: The Economics of Bad Behaviour, with Dr. Bridget O’Shaughnessy, McMaster’s Dept. of Economics
– Applying economic principles to analyze human behaviour, including criminal behaviour, legal but risky behaviour, and the behaviour of corporate and public sector organizations.
