My Calendar

On Friday, February 28, 2020 we have a very special event in the LIVELab. Michelle Titian, an amazing singer/songwriter from Hamilton, will be performing live. http://titanshows.com/michelle-titian/ Michelle won a number of awards, but she also struggled with alcohol addiction and this put a stop to her career for awhile. She has overcome her addiction and is performing again, and her show in the LIVELab will be in part about mental health and her story of recovery. https://drivefoundation.org/

During Michelle’s musical performance, we will use our video wall to display poignant lyrics from Michelle’s songs along with photos by Sandra Antoniani, a Hamilton attorney who created a work of art called “Shifting Focus”. This piece which has been displayed at the AGH is a collection of photos that gives a voice to people recovering from addiction by highlighting their individual stories. During each concert, we incorporate a “Science Snapshot” where an expert in the field gives a short talk aimed at the public about the science behind the ‘theme’ of the show. The speaker for this concert will be Candice Graydon, an addictions researcher from the University of Waterloo.

Students at the University will also be involved in this creative and powerful event. The Artists at McMaster MSU Club hosted a workshop in the LIVELab on Feb 11 for students to create digital art on the theme “What Does Mental Health Mean to You?” Their work will be published in a zine and released in a special exhibition in the LIVELab on the evening of Tuesday, February 25th. As well, the Artists at McMaster Club has rented the Marketplace and Big Screens in the MUSC during the day on Feb 25th and will work with SWELL and Open Circle to provide support for students and be available for students to ask questions. Michelle will do a pop-up performance in the student centre from 12:30-1:30 and we will be giving away 2 tickets to Michelle’s concert on Friday evening.

As community outreach, a group of 45 students from Westdale High School will be visiting the LIVELab in the afternoon of Feb 28 to view the art exhibits, tour the lab and hear Michelle perform live and give her story.

With our ongoing research on music and health, we are in a unique position to inspire others, to raise awareness and take part in the sharing of information, tools, and support for mental health issues.

Join us for an evening of music and art and share in the Journey of Recovery.
