McMaster University’s School of the Arts invites you to join us for our Fall Major Production, Kontatewenní:yos ne Tyonathonwí:sen.

Kontatewenní:yos ne Tyonathonwí:sen (The Women are Free) is a roving performance that shares stories of colonialism and Indigenous resistance in venues across campus. You will hear from McMaster students, Mohawk poet Kahsenniyo Williams and members of 1492 Land Back Lane. Join us for a theatrical exploration of what it means to occupy stolen land. What actions can we take to uphold the treaties and ensure a sustainable future on this land? Kontatewenní:yos ne Tyonathonwí:sen (The Women are Free) is the 2021 Fall Major Production, an annual professional theatrical performance staged by students of The School of the Arts’ THTRFLM 3SO6 class.

Content Warning: Issues of colonial oppression, intergenerational trauma, depictions of racism, and racist language.

IMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION:
The show begins in the Black Box Theatre in L.R. Wilson Hall, McMaster University but the audience are then taken on a journey across campus, moving from one location to another in small, socially distanced groups. It is important you DRESS FOR THE WEATHER as the journeys and some of the performance venues are outside.

The journeys and venues are all wheelchair accessible. In each performance the audience will travel approximately 4km.

In the case of heavy rain, the show will be cancelled. A decision will be made one (1) hour before your performance time and audience members will be informed via email. If your performance is cancelled, please try to book at another time. After closing, a digital version of the performance will be made available to everyone who does not get to see the show.

All audience members must abide by McMaster University’s COVID-19 Health and Safety Procedures. This includes masking, physical distancing and McMaster University’s Visitor Vaccination Policy. Upon arrival, audience members will be asked to show visual proof of one of the screening tools listed below. If an audience member is unable to provide proof of vaccination or if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or are otherwise unable to successfully complete the provincial government’s COVID-19 self assessment, they will not be able to attend the performance or campus.

Students, Faculty and Staff:
All McMaster faculty, students and staff are required to complete daily COVID screening via MacCheck before coming to a McMaster location.

Visitors:
To attend a McMaster location, all visitors must download and use the McMaster Safety App to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at least one hour before their first time attending a McMaster location.

In addition, all individuals must not attend a McMaster location if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or are otherwise unable to successfully complete the provincial government’s COVID-19 self assessment.
