History Hike In West Campus: Coldspring Valley/Lot M

Walk back in time to uncover the hidden history of Coldspring Valley which for the past several decades has been better known as McMaster Parking Lot M (formerly Lot 6)

Before McMaster paved the floodplain to create parking, the property was a prized Royal Botanical Garden’s nature sanctuary.

On this historical walk you will learn about the changes that degraded the natural function of this wetland, uncover fragments of the former trail system, see new research on the rehabilitated 30m riparian buffer on former parking stalls, solve the mystery of Binkley’s Pond, and end at a hidden pioneer cemetery.

Meet at McMaster University Student Centre room 229 – we leave at 12:30 p.m. sharp. Please dress for the weather, comfortable shoes for various terrain including footpath.
