Lack of access to clean water is the leading cause of mortality at the global level.  The politics of providing safe water is the singular issue that could have the largest impact on human health. “Blue is the new Green” will explore the interdependence of water, public health and private wealth, with a focus on the correlation between low income levels and environmentally degraded residential areas. With case studies across the Great Lakes, including Flint and Detroit, the discussion will discuss strategies for advancing the understanding of water and public health, reforming institutions, fortifying joint commissions, and improving equitable water management.
