Are you interested in AI? How about the ethics behind it?

Join Spark’s virtual Algorithmically-Encoded Identities sessions to hear from Google’s Ethical AI team about the classification structures that underlie AI, and how those structures can embed and deepen social inequalities.

The free virtual session is open to everyone – faculty, students and staff at McMaster, as well as community members.

This introductory discussion will focus on the ways in which classification is an infrastructure and technology of power. Considering the fundamental role of classification in AI, they explore the implications for embedded social inequality.

This workshop is hosted by Alex Hanna, a sociologist and senior research scientist working on the Ethical AI team at Google, Dylan Baker, a software engineer on the Ethical AI team at Google and Emily Denton, a research scientist on the Ethical AI team at Google.

This workshop will be hosted virtually and will be shared publicly afterward.
