In this one hour presentation, you’ll learn how to access, at no cost, the national Digital Research Alliance of Canada hardware resources (CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage, including cloud VMs), as well as software and training.

Faculty can complete a simple online application to get an account, and can sponsor student, postdoc, and collaborator accounts. With an account, you can immediately begin using familiar tools such as R, Jupyter and many commercial applications, as well as Cloud and RDM facilities.

At McMaster, direct support is provided by SHARCNET, which is a member of the national Digital Research Alliance of Canada. Alliance staff across the country are experts in many domains, and can help you use resources efficiently, including many training opportunities. An annual Research Allocation Competition (RAC) is available for large projects; this year’s RAC has just opened, and we’ll explain it and answer questions.

This time is particularly interesting as the national systems (including the one operated by SHARCNET) will be undergoing a major upgrade, with the upgraded systems becoming available to researchers some time next year. The upgrades will significantly increase the amount of resources (CPU cores, memory, storage space), and will include the most up to date GPUs. To make the transition to the new setup as seamless as possible, SHARCNET/Alliance staff will be providing the relevant training to researchers via online courses, webinars, and online documentation.

No registration is required.
