Welcome to the neighbourhood

Two students in conversation while sitting on the front steps of a house. There is the McMaster University logo and text on the photo that reads, ‘Welcome to the Neighbourhood.’

As McMaster and our surrounding communities prepare to welcome a new cohort of students, the university is launching its annual campaign to encourage students to be good neighbours.

Students settling in to the Westdale and Ainslie Wood areas have a chance to get to know the families, businesses and people around them. The Good Neighbour campaign encourages them to introduce themselves to their new neighbours and to contribute to a great living environment in the neighbourhood.

“McMaster students have been part of the fabric of west Hamilton communities for more than 90 years and play an important role in continuing to make it a great place to live,” says Sean Van Koughnett, associate vice-president, students and learning, and dean of students.

“Being a good neighbour can be as simple as saying hello to the people next door, being considerate about noise, respecting their property, and knowing the right days to put out your garbage and recycling.”

As part of the Good Neighbour campaign, the university is sharing messages with students directly and through a number of digital channels.
