Witelson, professor of psychiatry & behavioural neurosciences and the Albert Einstein/Irving Zucker Chair in Neuroscience, will present the Ben Meyer Memorial Lecture on Monday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m. in the McMaster University Student Centre, third floor – CIBC Hall.
Entitled Neurology of Beliefs: Homo Mythopoesis, the lecture will examine the pervasive human characteristic of having belief systems and possible neurological bases for this feature that appears to be a trademark of human thinking.
The lecture is presented by the Herb and CeCe Schreiber Family Foundation, The Jewish Community Centre of Hamilton-Wentworth & Area and McMaster University.
Witelson also is a fellow of the Royal Society (Canada). Her area of research concerns the neurobiological underpinnings of the functional differences of regions of the human brain. Her work has addressed dyslexia, the language neural network, sex differences in brain structure, sexual orientation and the study of the brain of Albert Einstein.
