posted on June 27: New construction projects to begin this summer
McMaster's Board of Governors has approved three new construction projects, worth $23.3 million, which are slated to begin this summer:
- The Advanced Materials Technology Research Facility will be built on the west side of the Arthur Bourns Building. The four-storey addition will house research labs and seminar rooms to support research in advanced materials technology and biomolecular interactions.
Funding for this project will come from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and the University. The total cost of the project is estimated at $10.9 million. Construction will begin in August and should be completed by September 2002.
- A one-storey addition will be built on the west side of the Tandem Accelerator Building to house a new laboratory, X-ray facility and administrative space for the Centre for Electrophotonic Materials and Devices.
CFI and the University will provide the funding for this project which is estimated to cost $1.1 million. Construction will begin in late August and should be finished by the end of January 2002.
- A new state-of-the-art chemistry laboratory will be built in the north wing of the Arthur Bourns Building. The renovation of the wing will create new undergraduate chemistry labs, offices and conference rooms.
Funding for this project will be divided between the SuperBuild fund and the University. The estimated total cost of the project is $11.3 million. The renovations will begin in August and should be finished in the fall of 2002.
