Come see this special collaborative exhibition featuring images of sacred women from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period selected from the Museum of Art collection and the William Ready Division of Archives and Research Collections at McMaster University.

Sacred

Sacred will include a late medieval altarpiece and images for private devotion as a complement to illuminated manuscripts such as a 15th century Book of Hours.

Sacred is presented in support of the Art Gallery of Hamilton project Relationships Between Art and the Sacred. The McMaster Museum of Art is one of several designated “Sacred Sites” in the region between June 21 and Sept. 29.

Sacred and Profane, June 9-Sept. 8

Inspired by both the Renaissance and contemporary use of the term “sacred and profane,” this exhibition includes a selection of art from McMaster's permanent collection that explore sacred and secular themes, the purity of love and the day-to-day reality of lust.

Profane features British and European paintings and prints from the 16th through the 20th century. Highlights include Lovis Corinth's The Kiss(1921) and Frank Auerbach's Study After Rubens' Samson and Delilah(1993) as well as Inuit prints and sculpture.

There will be a Lunchtime Talk for both Sacred and Sacred & Profane on Wednesday, June 12 at 12:30 p.m.

The McMaster Museum of Art is located on the campus of McMaster University. Admission to the Museum and this special presentation is pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $2.
