Over 4,000 McMaster students and their loved ones will arrive on campus this weekend as part of a two-day residence move-in event.

Students will begin arriving on Saturday, August 24 at 8 a.m. and move-in is expected to wrap up Sunday, August 25 by 6:30 p.m.

Hundreds of upper-year student representatives will be on hand to cheer, help greet incoming students and assist families with unloading their vehicles.

If you will be on campus, please plan for an increase in foot and vehicle traffic over the weekend. Housing and Conference Services (HCS) has partnered with Parking Services to make the event run as smoothly as possible, including creating move-in driving routes that minimize the impact of traffic on the surrounding community.

HCS staff will continue to run its Live Chat for support and will be posting updates to its Instagram and WhatsApp social media channels.

Information for staff on campus Friday, August 23

Lots G, H, and Q will be closed for move-in setup starting Friday at 4:00 p.m. and will reopen on Monday. Note that Lot H will remain partially open on Friday for the duration of summer camp pickups before closing.

Information for staff on campus Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25

  • University employees entering McMaster through the Sterling Street and Cootes Drive entrances should be aware of heavy move-in traffic through campus and plan for additional travel time.
  • Employees typically accessing Lots G, H or Q will be assigned an alternate location by Parking Services.
  • Employees are asked not to park in Lot D, reserved for move-in taxi and Uber drop-off, or Lot E, reserved for Athletics & Recreation staff, coaches and Signature Suite guests.
  • Parking is available for employees and move-in vehicles in Lot I, M or Stadium Underground. We encourage the use of Lot M to avoid traffic delays.
  • Any pick-ups or deliveries on campus should use an alternate location away from residence move-in activity.
  • The shuttle bus will be running Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., providing access to and from Lots M and P to central campus.
  • For a detailed view of the areas mentioned above, please view the parking lot map on the Parking Services website
