Meet the DeGroote School of Business valedictorian
His best memory of McMaster? “Playing catch on Mac grounds as a final exam study break with my friend Tristan,” says Connor Prebianca, valedictorian at the June 13 convocation for the DeGroote School of Business.
If you had a superpower, what would it be? What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you? Connor Prebianca, valedictorian at the June 13 convocation for the DeGroote School of Business, answers these and other pressing questions in our Daily News questionnaire:
- Your home town:
Hamilton, Ontario
- Your degree and subject area:
Honours Bachelor of Commerce. Focus: Supply Chain Management.
- Where are you headed after convocation?
I will be working for ArcelorMittal Dofasco in the Purchasing Department as a Sourcing Analyst.
- Your best memory of Mac?
Playing catch on Mac grounds as a final exam study break with my friend Tristan.
- The best advice anyone ever gave you?
“Strategy without tactics is chaos. Tactics without strategy is death.”
- Your biggest accomplishment so far?
Being named valedictorian!
- If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Telekinesis.
- What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned (so far)?
Writing down goals is extremely effective. Putting thoughts to paper (or computer screen) keeps myself accountable.
- What do you think the future holds for higher education?
As we move further and further into the digital age, higher education will follow suit using high-tech methods in its daily operations. Online classrooms will gain in popularity, but I also believe that with advances in virtual reality, students will one day be sitting in their living room and be able to attend a post-secondary class in real time with a real professor just by putting on a set of virtual reality goggles.
- While at Mac, did you receive donor-funded financial assistance (e.g., a scholarship, award, bursary)? Any thoughts on the importance of giving back to your alma mater to support future generations?
Yes, and I am very thankful. Two donor-funded awards I received were the Frank & Carol Tristani Scholarship and the Rick D. Hackett Scholarship in Human Resources Management & Organizational Behaviour. I am a firm believer that donating 10% of your net income keeps you selfless and disciplined in your finances, not to mention a little happier with your tax return. Why not give back to your school and help other students who have financial need? Pay it forward.
