McMaster's unique partnership with Mohawk College was celebrated Wednesday morning at Hamilton's LIUNA Station.
The University's past President Peter George was presented with the Friend of Mohawk College Award in recognition of the institutions' strong relationship and the successful partnerships the two schools have initiated over the last number of years.
According to Mohawk president Rob MacIsaac, the college's partnership with McMaster is one of its strongest.
“It is unique in Ontario, and the envy of 23 other college presidents,” he said. “It gives students the best of both worlds: the best of a college education and the best of a university education.”
Together, McMaster and Mohawk built the first centre in the country to combine college and university health sciences programs and research. The institutions also teamed up to created the first bachelor of technology program, and earlier this summer joined forces on a new digital media institute for Hamilton.
“Creating, sustaining and growing partnerships like this takes real leadership,” said MacIsaac. “I have the honour of recognizing a true friend of Mohawk College and a champion of post-secondary education in our community.”
The Friend of Mohawk College Award is given annually to a community champion who makes Mohawk an even greater place to learn for students.
