McMaster Marauders hire new defensive coordinator

McMaster University has hired Greg Knox as the new defensive coordinator of the McMaster Marauder football program. Greg Knox will replace Joe Sardo who stepped aside after 6 seasons at the helm to focus on his family and full-time job.

Knox played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Calgary
Stampeders for eight seasons (1992-1999). He was a member of 2 Grey Cup Championship winning teams (1992, 1998). Knox was a CFL All-Canadian (1994) and Nominee for the CFL Tom Pate,
“Man of the Year” Award (1994) for outstanding sportsmanship, dedication and contribution to the league.

As a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Student-Athlete, he was a member of the Wilfrid Laurier Vanier Cup Team (1991) with McMaster head coach, Stefan Ptaszek. He also holds a bachelor of education degree from the University of Maine.

Knox has also served as a Board member of the CFL Players Association, Calgary Stampeders Alumni Association and Team Representative in countless public relations functions, speaking engagements and charitable events,
including Stay in School, Children's Milk Fund and Big Brothers and Sisters.

Head Coach, Stefan Ptaszek commented that ” I am extremely excited that Greg is on board for the 2006 season. First and foremost, Coach Knox will be an excellent role model to our student athletes and a quality addition to the Marauder football family.

His extensive knowledge of the game and skills as an educator will be invaluable assets in our quest for a National Championship.”

Knox will begin his new role in Mid-April, and will take the reins of the McMaster University defense for the first time April 27-30 when the Marauder Football program holds its annual spring camp.
