Richard Levin joins the University this fall from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) where he has been the vice-president of Strategic Enrolment Management and registrar for the past six years.
“We couldn't ask for a better or more experienced candidate,” said provost Ilene Busch-Vishniac. “Along with his broad public sector experience Richard has worked for a medical-doctoral university, developed a great track record in establishing the registrar's function at UOIT's, and built strong student numbers there. As well he is a proven leader in optimizing the use of technology.”
Originally from Winnipeg, he graduated with a BA (honours) in Psychology from the University of Winnipeg in 1984 and earned his Master's in Psychology from York University the following year.
His early career was with the Manitoba government's departments of Health and Education before moving to Ontario where he was a senior policy advisor in the ministries of Skills Development and Education and Training.
His government work continued with an appointment to the province's Education and Quality Accountability Office where he spent four years before moving west to become director of Student Records and registrar at the University of Manitoba. He has spent the last six years at UOIT and he has also been actively involved with registrars' associations in both Canada and the United States.
“I'm looking forward to getting to know people in the Registrar's Office and across the University,” says Levin. “McMaster is an institution that's known for its creativity and excellence. Building on existing strengths to provide the highest possible standard of student services and support for student success will be my top priority.”
The Registrar's Office's role is being expanded and the registrar will now work with both undergraduate and graduate student records.
