Mac Pride Week Oct. 29 to Nov. 2


Earlier this year, Hamilton mayor Fred Eisenberger and Ward 1 Councillor Aidan Johnson unveiled a new rainbow crosswalk at the Sterling Street entrance to campus as a symbol of inclusiveness among the LGBTQ community.

This week, Mac Pride will hosting events on campus from October 29 to November 2.

Mac Pride Week events are below:

Monday October 29

  • Navigating Healthcare while Trans
    • MUSC 230 | 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
    • A discussion of how trans and gender diverse individuals navigate the healthcare system, and the barriers that exist for both routine and specialized care. This event is closed to trans folks.
  • Alumni Mixer
    • TwelveEighty Bar & Grill | 7 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
    • Meet LGBTQ2SI+ alumni, learn about their time at Mac, where they are now, receive expert wisdom, and enjoy some free food.

Tuesday October 30

  • Resistance and Existence: PoC, Pride, and Police
    • L.R. Wilson Hall, Room 2001 | 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
    • An interactive event centred around a guided exploration of the relationship between LGBT!+ folks and the police across history
    • With Diversity Services

Wednesday October 31

  • Pride Rally
    • Meet at Mills Plaza 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
    • Sign making starts at 12:30 p.m., and speakers and cheers start at 1:30 p.m.

Thursday, November 1

  • Discussion Series
    • MUSC 224 | 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
    • A series of LGBTQ2SI+ centred discussions. These discussions are closed to LGBTQ2SI+ folks, and the first discussion is closed to LGBTPoC
  • All the Colours of the Rainbow: LGBTQ2SI+ PoC yesterday, today, and tomorrow
    • 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Does the rainbow have a ramp? This intersection of LGBTQ2SI+ and disabled identities
    • 12:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • What now? Being LGBTQ2SI+ in the current political climate
    • 1:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Friday November 2

  • Sex Ed: Pride Edition
    • MUSC 206/207 | 1:20 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
    • This will be an LGBTQ+ sex ed and relationships seminar. Learn about sexual health. This event is closed to LGBTQ2SI+ folks
  • Drag Show

The Pride Community Centre (PCC) is a service supported by the McMaster Students Union. They provide a contact point for McMaster students that may identify as LGBTQ2SI+. They also offer confidential peer support, educational programming, and access to resources of interest to the community.
