for classes at Lee Academy wearing McMaster maroon and grey.
The elementary school, located in rural Lynden, Ont., is named for the family of former
McMaster President Alvin Lee. His daughter Alison Will, the school's director, organized
the initiative.
“He was thrilled to hear that the students were showing support for the Marauders as
they compete for the Vanier Cup tonight,” she said.
As a child, Will attended plenty of Marauders football games, but was often forced to sit
on the visiting team's side of the field as her father greeted guests.
“I learned to cheer louder than any visiting team's fans,” she said. “Tonight, our whole
family and our school will be cheering loud enough for the Marauders to hear us in
Vancouver!”
Lee, a renowned literary critic, spent the majority of his 39-year academic career at
McMaster, where he served as President and Vice-Chancellor from 1980 to 1990. The
building which houses the McMaster Museum of Art is named after him.
