Big Ideas, Better Cities will highlight McMaster’s cutting-edge research and explore the ways McMaster research can help cities respond to 21st century challenges.

How is McMaster research helping to build healthy, vibrant communities locally and around the world?

The McMaster and Hamilton communities are invited to explore this question and more at Building Healthy Neighbourhoods, the next event in the Big Ideas, Better Cities series. *

From February 6-10, 2016, join McMaster experts in the Hamilton community and on campus for a range of events that explore the cutting-edge research currently underway, as well as the unique labs and spaces where researchers are making the discoveries that help build healthier communities.

Events include public talks and workshops, a health fair featuring the work of McMaster researchers, a community-focused “health crawl” made up of tours and demonstrations in six different research facilities on campus, and a special event produced in partnership with the Walrus Foundation featuring a unique mix of experts talking about ways to build smart, healthy, creative cities.

This series of events involves more than 60 McMaster researchers campus-wide. Each event is being organized by a team of interdisciplinary researchers and is the result of consultations within the University community and with City of Hamilton officials.

Do you know that we have a kind of fat in our body that burns calories? Or that how much you sleep can impact your appetite?  Scientists are learning a lot about how our bodies respond to sleep, food, and exercise.

Kids ages 7-14 and their families are invited to join Dr. Katherine Morrison, Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University, for this fun and engaging talk to discover what’s NEW in the science behind our health.

Ever wanted to pull back the curtain and see first-hand how research discoveries are made? Join McMaster researchers as they provide guided tours through some unique labs and spaces on campus and demonstrate how they do the research that helps build healthier communities.

Join us for visits, tours and demonstrations in six different research locations on campus.
