That's why the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) is launching a contest to raise awareness of the learning opportunities it offers, including certificate and diploma programs, corporate training and general interest courses.

“Our objective is to raise awareness of McMaster University's Centre for Continuing Education as a resource for individuals wanting to start or resume their education,” said Bhavisha Morphet, marketing manager at CCE. “We launched the contest to highlight the Centre for Continuing Education and to encourage people to enter for a chance to win a free course.”

The contest is open to anyone who has never taken a CCE course. To enter the contest, please click here for a chance to win one of the following prizes:

  • Free course tuition for a certificate or diploma course (valued up to $800)
  • $100 Titles gift certificate
  • $50 Titles gift certificate

Entries must be received by midnight on Friday, April 22.

The flexibility offered by CCE courses appeals to many students who want to enhance their degrees or upgrade their skills to improve their hiring potential or change professions.

“Depending on a student's needs, interests and goals, they can choose from a variety of learning formats and the pace at which they take courses,” said Morphet. “As part of McMaster, CCE also provides students with access to quality university level education. Our students tell us that this is an important consideration in their decision to enroll. And an added benefit of this university affiliation is that many CCE programs offer credit towards professional designations or undergraduate degrees.”

According to a Statistics Canada report, employees who participated in adult education and obtained a post-secondary certificate made significant gains in wages and earnings.

“To maintain a competitive advantage in the workplace, employees need to look for ways to expand their knowledge, and this is where CCE can be a valuable partner,” said Morphet. “Employers tell us that a key factor used to differentiate between candidates during the hiring process is what recent training or skills upgrade a potential employee has completed. Employers know that learning is ongoing, and value individuals who also recognize the importance of keeping current.”
