Golden Key charitable book drive.

Book drop-off stands were placed in both the student center and Mills library allowing students, staff and faculty to donate their used books. In less than two weeks this drive helped to collect more than 600 books to be donated to Hamilton's Inasmuch Women's Shelter for Women and Children.

“The greatest part about this initiative was that it truly was a campus-wide effort,” remarked Lauren Kappius, service director and co-ordinator of this event.

Golden Key, which is known primarily as an academic honour society, has taken many steps towards broadening its horizons, such as their recent literacy campaign. The book drive is just one installment of this campaign, which includes a peer tutoring network at Dalewood public school.

“As an academic honour society, we recognize that our responsibilities extend beyond the borders of the university,” commented Golden Key vice-president Sammy Ali. “The opportunities to
give back to the community are endless. We will continue to provide a
medium for students to become involved and take advantage of these
opportunities.”

This year, under the leadership of co-presidents Tara Becevel and
Faizal Haji, McMaster Golden Key has made campus awareness a major
priority. This event marks the first of a series of campus-wide events that the McMaster Golden Key chapter has scheduled for this academic year.
