Break a leg: Student theatre productions take centre stage at McMaster

The cast of The Bell Ringer rehearse at McMaster's Robinson Memorial Theatre. The show is one of six being put on by fourth-year students as part of the Honours Performance Series.

On March 13, the curtain will rise at the Robinson Memorial Theatre for another season of the Honours Performance Series.

The Honours Performance Series, part of the year-long Spotlight on the Arts Festival, features six plays created, designed and directed by the graduating Theatre and Film Studies students.

Unlike traditional plays, these student productions expose audiences to a whole new theatrical experience through innovative staging techniques and compelling storytelling. From the absurdist clowning in Lighthouse, to the foreboding atmosphere of The Bell Ringer, audiences are guaranteed to find a play within the series that relates to their own experiences and interests.

The series is also the thesis project for the Theatre and Film Studies program.

“The theatre program has been an amazing experience, and it’s been rewarding to see our work and research come to life in a full-length production,” said Nastazja Palonka, the co-creator of the satirical Unidentified: [insert culture here]. “I’m very excited to see everyone’s work. I encourage all McMaster students to come out and see these shows.”

Admission is free for all plays. The Robinson Memorial Theatre is located in Chester New Hall, room 103. Please visit http://spotlight.mcmaster.ca/series/honours-performance-series/ for more information about the Honours Performance Series.
