McMaster’s Wilson Institute is participating in Canada 150 by devoting topics to Confederation through their Visiting Speaker Series.

The various speakers lined up will be addressing important issues such as the impact of Confederation on Indigenous peoples, Confederation in the context of the 19th century North American nation-building, and the environmental impact of Confederation.

Canada 150 is an initiative by the Government of Canada counting down the last 150 days of 2016 with topics and announcements from community partners leading into 2017.

The first talk, on October 6, will take place at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre downtown with a talk by Guelph University’s Dr. Matthew Hayday on “Constructing Canadian Identities: how Dominion Day and Canada Day celebrations have shaped our Country.” Learn about the politics of Canada Day and how the celebrations have played an active role in constructing our country’s national identity over the past century and a half.
